The Master, The War Chief and The War Games: Question

So, I was watching The War Games (and if I didn't already think that Jamie was awesome, this would have taught me that. Love Jamie. I need a 2/Jamie icon, ahem, onwards) and a thought came to me when we were shown that the War Chief is in fact a Time Lord ( Read more... )

old school, questions

I'm very slow with them so haven't seen as many as I should (it's the same reason I still haven't read all the Ninth Doctor books yet - because when I have there's no more new material!). Invasion is a good one. They spend most of the episode running around together. Including but not limited to - in the back of a truck, in a canoe, and clinging to each other in fear of the cybermen. Actually there feels like there's a lot of cyberman episodes with these two, but I guess it's all down to preservation. Tomb of the Cybermen has handporn. I'm still not sure how much I want to say that Evil of the Daleks was shippy and how much it was creepy (the Doctor being mean to his favourite companion, but I guess he's just setting a pattern there really).

And I'll read War Games before I see it. And I'll distract myself by playing the "Isn't David Troughton a roman soldier in this story?" game. And if I spot him it'll be followed by shouts of "there's sam's daddy" there's sam's daddy!. But that's the sad thing about the fact that my fandoms collide in this way. But yeah, I'll read it with lots of tissues next to me, whilst on holiday, and probably drink lots afterwards and then watch Tooth and Claw to convince myself that the Doctor never did forget him . . .

Sam's daddy? As in LoM Sam? The actor is a bit young to have been an adult back then isn't he?

Good philosophy that *g* I haven't read them all either but that's because I'm lazzy. And shall watch those episodes on youtube, if they're there (I know the channel from blogspot).

Huh. Someone should do a meta on that, the way he's treated various companions over time, the trends and so on.

Sam Troughton [points at icon]. Plays Much in Robin Hood. Pat's grandson. Evil of the Daleks is audio only. There's one surviving scene and it's on the Tomb of the Cyberman DVD.

hang on a minute, a Second Doctor era question - where's vandonavan?!

And I like to think there's some progression with the way the Doctor treats his companions, other than the simple "Ikk, you're a human, go away" to "You're human? Okay!" to "Oh Rose I can't say the words but I act on them everyday!". Or perhaps I'm just too cynical. It's the problem with his show that there never was a big grand plan like shows have to have now. They never really knew how long it was going to be popular and they'd still be making it, and there was no overall head with his own vision in the same way as something like Buffy or Farscape, it's just been around far too long for that to be possible. Sends up round in circles discussing things though. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

Ahhhh, that makes much more sense. And only one scene? Damnit, well, shall catch up with what's on YouTube in any case. Jamie must be seen.

Vandonavan is a big Two fan I take it?

And there may be no grand plan, but there's been development none the less. Where someone is continuing a thing you must build on what was there before - even if it's in the mode of purposefully ignoring or changing it. But yeah, I was watching a clip of Patrick at a convention and he was talking about how Two started out as he did and it wasn't some big scheme other than the fact he didn't want to have big gigantic, long, rambling speeches to learn.
