I have questions!

Aug 17, 2006 08:14

1. Is one end of a fruit sweeter than the other?

2. Why does popcorn pop?

3. How does a self-cleaning oven work?

4. What is the most dangerous room in a home?

5. Why does ice float?

6. How does the body perceive taste?

7. Is the saying "You're hungry an hour after eating Chinese food" true?

Someone help.
I need answers.

1. Sweetness (general balance of acidity and such) is achieved by ripening, ripeness is simply a stage of rot. Think of a banana, you can let it sit out and the more stages of rot it goes thru the sweeter it will be, but, there comes a point when we get turned off by the unsightly brown color (I like brown spots, persoanlly) and the mushy texture (that's when you make banana bread). Different ends of a fruit can ripen/rot at different stages, think again of those brown spots, and yes, they will be sweeter, same with other fruits, like, you can find a tougher spot of a peach that isn't as ripe as the other, or if you store fruit incorrectly, like, laying it flat in a surface and never rotating it while it is going thru it's ethylene changes you will find that the bottom where it is laying down, will rot first. What brings this up ( ... )

I always thought the most dangerous room in the home was the bathroom. Germs, germs, germs everywhere, electric appliances near water sources, and a shower/bathtub in which you can slip and break your neck.

Some people might even think the kitchen is plenty dangerous, as well - but my money's on the toilet!
