Finding Love in Bookstores: an eyewitness account

Who knew?  Then again, I hung out in the SFF section when I was in high school and college, an 80's nerd hangout as it were.

Supposedly libraries are a great place to meet people too. I have had no such luck in either place. At least not meeting a person I would date. People talk to me. I know the staff.

But hey, many of may friends get asked out when they're at the bookstore.

I was thinking about the library idea, and I have to admit that I know the regulars at our local branch really well. The staff too. I guess you could say that they know me well enough that if I started hitting on people they'd ask what happened to my wife. ;-)

I never got asked out when I was at either place, so I'm surprised that people do get hit on.

It doesn't surprise me. I mean, if you like to read...and you see someone attractive in the store. You can assume they like to read, too. And based on where they are, you can get clues about their personality. I seems a better place to meet someone than a club. But that's just me. :)

Great article, lovely writing. And it reminds me that I've been meaning to read some of Emma Straub's fiction.

But I have always been mildly freaked out if strangers approach me and start up conversations.

Well, make sure they're not holding an Ayn Rand book first. ;-)
