Well, Joseph-Beth Booksellers was on the auction block because a creditor didn't approve of the owner's plan to exit bankruptcy, and that creditor managed to successfully outbid the owner for the stores:

Finding Love in Bookstores: an eyewitness account

Who knew?  Then again, I hung out in the SFF section when I was in high school and college, an 80's nerd hangout as it were.

I've been reading Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking, which is set in an Urban Fantasy version of Cincinnati, and I've found it fascinating reading.  Yes, the novel is good so far, but what has attracted me the most was that my hometown is the setting.

The Borders closest to us --and the closest physical bookstore to us-- is slated to close.

The restructuring brought on by Borders' bankruptcy means that there will be only one bookstore west of I-75 within Hamilton County, a Waldenbooks.  That's one store to serve roughly half of the county's population of 840,000 people.

Before Christmas, CBS Sunday Morning ran an article called Judging Books by their Covers, which highlighted the emphasis placed on the cover --by both the publishing industry and the consumer.
