how does a penguin hold a pencil?

Since I know a few of you are probably curious, here are the responses the penguins "wrote" to the first graders. I submitted them to the Comm department for approval but will hopefully be able to get them in the mail his week.

The letters. )

This is just the cutest and sweetest thing ever and I think it's so cool that you put the time and thought into writing them. :)

*dittoes this* It's wonderful that the zoo would go out of its way to make friends with a bunch of kids on behalf of the penguins :)

It didn't take me more than an hour to put together the responses and I know it's gonna mean the world to the kids. That's what counts.

The teacher included a note and said it'd be nice if I could "respond to a few." Now, c'mon. You can't not write to all of them, especialy if you saw all the adorable pictures and handwriting. If you were a six-year-old wouldn't you be completely thrilled to get a letter from a penguin?!

Besides, making the connection with kids is what's important ... and a whole lot of fun. :)

Yes, my eighteen penguins are definitely the coolest penguins this side of Chile & Peru. :)

Very cute! The kids will love these letters.

Question -- are the birthdays the penguins' actual birthdays?

Actual birthdays, actual ages, actual band colors, actual family relationships in some cases. I can give you the run-down information on all 18 birds if you want. :)

Ha ha, nice. :)

Well, the reason I asked about the birthdays is because there are a lot of very closely clustered birthdays. I mean, I assume that's because of the timing of breeding season and whatnot, but that just happened to stand out to me.

Yup, most eggs hatch in April and May because they're laid in February and March, with a 42 day incubation period (give or take).
