The outer command of the southern precinct in Stockholm just asked for help on twitter, wanting to get the pronouns right in a report involving a trans-person.
He was very polite about it! And thanked me for the mini lecture, saying it was important to meet everyone with respect and consideration. Good cop! Especially since the person in question was the suspect.
Aww, bless. That makes me happy too, for both the larger perspective and because it completely reinforces everything I learned about the Swedish police system from the "Martin Beck" novels. I'd immigrate if y'all didn't have such high standards, honestly.
Yeah, the movies aren't so great - especially the one with Walter Matthau, whom I normally love - but it's hard to make great books into great movies.
I first read the books ages ago; my Dad gave them to me... when I was 12. Why he thought "Roseanne" was suitable reading for a 12-year-old, I have no idea - but it damn well upped my standards for good detective fiction.

I like them too! The later movies, not so much, but the books are good.
