I take umbrage... squange January 19 2007, 06:59:21 UTC
I like Modest Mouse. They're waaay less emo than AFI.

Most Holy says that Elric is kind of a whiny prat and from everything I've been told, Fritz Lieber's Fafnir and the Grey Mouser series is vastly superior. There is a cool band from the 70s called Hawkwind, however, that does a concert album called Chronicle of the Black Sword that is a rock-opera concept piece telling the entire Elric Saga. It's worth the torrent if you can find it.

Mildly off topic, have you ever read any George R. Martin? My boss gave me the first three of his four tomes and swears they're some of the best fantasy he's ever read, and I respect his opinion. He's a huge Robert Jordan fan (in fact he's the one who told me Jordan is dying).

I think Modest Mouse is a fine band, I just think they have an incredibly emo name. I tried the line with Magnetic Fields and AFI and The Weakerthans, but it didn't sound as funny.

Anyway, I've read the first two Martin books, and will probably get to finishing them once I pick up book four. They are really good, and I think you'll enjoy them a lot. Very complex characters and stories and all sorts of good fun. As for Jordan dying, I've heard that one too. I heard it before, years ago, though, so I don't know how accurate it is. Legend also has it that the next book is the last one, so he can kick off any time after the final edits get sent to Tor.

Nearly 20 years he's been writing that damn series. I wish I could quit you, Rand Al'Thor.... *grin*

Wishful thinking indeed. Sounds like he's got the right attitude to handle this kind of illness, too. That kind of optimism can make or break a man....

Still, I'm hoping that the end of the series is in sight. I'm starting to get impatient. *grin*

Think you did. Elric was the coolest when I was 14. I remember the graphic novel Elric, too, one of the first time the colors looked really "painted." That was beautiful work.
