Back from San Francisco...and in Hell

OMG the heat is very, very much on. I didn't get full-fledged sleep last night/this morning either, but I did do a little napping. I'm going to go to bed early tonight...and I do mean early...but it is evil HOT and I might not be able to sleep thanks to that. I feel like Alex in that one episode of MTV's Downtown. My brains feel like the melted ( Read more... )

You need at least one, maybe two, box fans. Keep 'em blowing throughout the house. Circulated air will make you feel more comfortable.

My friend Deb didn't believe me about this, until I bought her one in protest. Now she runs the thing all the time. It helps boost what cooling she gets from the defective A/C in her apartment.

Far better than trying to put up ceiling fans, which do circulate air better but are a pain to balance and install on ceilings. Take the word from someone who did a lot of those fans.

Check it out at the store down the street from you:

I do have a ceiling fan in the bedroom and it goes on tonight.

Also, I prefer pedestal fans to box fans. I can literally take the cold air from the air-conditioned front room and bank it into the bedroom with two well-placed pedestal fans. I am also thinking about setting up a fan to suck out the hot air in the bedroom.

The A/C in the front room is actually pretty damn good, even with "energy saver" turned on. The only thing the stupid box needs is a thermostat that is a bit more precise than zero to "this goes to eleven."

Oh yeah, good news in spite of the bad on FISA: Obama now has a 15% edge over McSame.

The problem I have with pedestal fans is, unless you're standing up all the time, they don't blow on you. My box fans blow on me pretty well when I'm sitting down, and when not aimed directly at me, they keep me cool with minimal air on ( ... )

Despite the two A/C vents, the ceiling fan, and the two pedestal fans, it's still blazing hot in my bedroom.

Sadly, it not just due to the summer heat, running the amount of stuff on one side of the bedroom (Two monitors, TV, PC with 650w, and modded Xbox, all mostly running 24/7) kinda makes the room rather humid 24/7/365. The only times that I can get any major cool air flowing through the room is if the wind is cool while it's raining. It doesn't happen a whole lot, though.

I'm not helping much, am I? :(
