Euphrate's Theories on Poly Geometry

Apr 02, 2009 05:56

I've attempted to explain this to various people over the course of the last year or so, but I don't think I've ever written it out as a single succinct theory, so I've decided to take a stab at it.

Musings behind the cut... )

That's some really good stuff. Do you mind if I link to it?

I only wish I had understood that a few years ago. I entered into a situation that was already very broken, and proceeded to take responsibility for the brokenness for nearly a year (all the way to the point of, "Maybe if I leave, things will be better"). Luckily, things are far better now, and I recognize how lucky I am to be in this relationship.

I found this post linked at a forum message and was glad to read it! I had to develop this perspective independently in my first poly relationship (a triad).

Each leg of the triangle seemed to have a strong suit: Two of us had a fantastic emotional connection, another pair intellectual, and another pair sexual. This became problematic as i think we were all guilty at some point of using one leg as a surrogate for shortcomings with the other, and each of us felt at times cut off from the other two in terms of the strength they shared. We addressed the problems with this picture in mind and mitigated some of them; it just wasn't enough (or we weren't mature enough) by that time.

I hope in my lifetime to see a fascinating graph-theoretic framework for poly (and not-so-poly) relationships evolve, through which it may become easier to "diagnose" a problem based on the strengths and weaknesses of the various edges (and faces). Thanks for helping kick-start it!
