Ever get the feeling that the show we actually ended up seeing was a random chance? Who knows how many different directions it almost went in, or how close they came to going a different way?
Also, but I really don't care about Chosen one way or the other. I've only watched it once, and probably won't watch it again. But I've been reading the shooting scripts over at Buffyworld, and it's interesting what was actually written to be filmed that didn't make it.
Yeah, wishful thinking now is pretty useless...but still, interesting.
I actually don't particularly feel it was random, since there were a lot of connecting threads. I do feel like a chunk of it, however, was lazy writing, or writing lacking continuity (like the Uber Vamps not being so "uber" in "Chosen"), which gives a sense of randomness, in a way. But then, hindsight is always 20/20. I just wish the writers/directors/editors were all on the same page, and from what we got, they clearly weren't. It would have been a great service to the final product if they had.
There were connecting threads, but there were also abandoned threads (throughout all the seasons, but there were so many things in S7 that didn't make sense to me) that were just discarded. The writers definitely had their choice of which direction they wanted to go. Or, had their choice of different directions to go in, even if there was heavier leaning in one direction.
Didn't Joss say on the commentary or an interview that's on the S7 DVDs that he was aware that he was making the uber vamps easier to kill in Chosen, but basically did it anyway (who cares about continuity) so he could have the whole 'power' message?
I wouldn't have minded to have Dawn being eaten up by that energy in the Hellmouth. What Joss did to Spike's character in Angel's 5th season and the comics totally ruined it for me. I still feel angry although it's been years now...
Really? Wow...this is new. I love Angel season five above the rest, and I'm stupidly happy that Joss is far, far away from the Angel comics, because IMHO, the Buffy comics are just made of fail (cept for that Jane Epenson Harmony issue. And maybe the Faith arc). Why didn't you like it?
in the season 8 comics, Buffy is the leader of the slayer army, feeling isolated and lonely, so lonely that she is getting into a sex-only relationship with a Japanese slayer who is totally in love with her. (I think lez Buffy is extremely out of character) and Spike in the After the fall comics is living in Hell-A Huhg Hefner style, with the red silk pjs AND being involved both with Illyria and a demon chick called Spider
so I'm really disappointed in Joss because both comics are being released with his approval on the plot...
Oh, he wasn't involved *involved* (sexually) with Illyria. And Spider was almost out of necessity for escape at first from her um...well, I think Master is appropriate, since she had control over the demon women harem (right?). I'm guessing you stopped reading those? If so, I do rec it (with Spike After the Fall as well--could clear some of that up).
Totally on board with your Buffy comic assessment though. And not only that, they apparently haven't done anything to help people at all in the 21 issues. Everything is about their own agenda, and oh yeah, they rob banks, among other things...I don't know what mission they're on, but whatever the hell it is, I stopped reading it long ago, not caring to find out.
Is it on the DVD? Cuz I didn't know there was an alternate, so I'm feeling blind... ;) Never bothered picking up the script book. Yeah, I think if Dawn had been a Slayer, she definitely wouldn't have let Spike take the glory.....hey, interesting fic idea, since she'd get to 'make up' for not getting to jump 2 years before. Saves the world and her loved ones......and I'm really wondering if a Slayer would die if they used that amulet, since it used sunlight kinda power through Spike.
Dude, I read a summary of the latest Angel:ATF - whoa.
No, I found this while looking around (when I should have been sleeping).
I'm actually glad Dawn wasn't, though if she had, there's no way she'd beat Spike in a fight--that whole "she holds her own in the fight against Spike" is utter poppycock. Though slayers are stronger, brute force is not enough to win a fight. If so, Spike would've been dead long ago by more skilled slayers than a newly chosen Dawn ;) Back to what the crap I was saying--I'm glad it didn't pan out that way, cause then Spike would have never dusted, and never been on s5 of Angel (which I love dearly).
And don't spoil me...I'm going to go buy it this weekend or Monday ;)
