Joss Whedon Leaves Twitter Due to Backlash

So, I was confused by that Joss Whedon​ abandons twitter thing, but then I saw this picture.  I have some thoughts on this.

Joss has said in the past he finds Twitter to be a huge time commitment, so he's probably happy to drop it. He's only really wanted to use it when he had something to promote, like Much Ado About Nothing.

Yeah, he said something along the lines of "needing the quiet" anyway. Still, I enjoyed his tweets on occasion.

I totally get needing less distractions as a writer. Every writer with a social media account has procrastinated online instead of putting words on the page, so you do what you need to work. The obnoxious people probably just gave him a good excuse to pull the plug now (again) instead of later. His Marvel deal is done, so he has nothing to promote until he sells a new project.

People were pissed about the Black Widow and Hulk storyline because it never occurred in the comic, the original source material. Hawkeye, captain America (sorta) and winter solider were all options of people Joss could have used as a love interest that would have lined up with the source material. Hawkeye doesnt have a family like is shown in the primary storyline of the comics either-- instead they appear in a much darker alternate unniverse story, so putting them in the films didnt make much sense either

I have to be honest and say I'm not familiar with the source material. That being said, given what we've seen in the last two films Natasha was in before this one, the only one who might have made sense would have been Cap, but that is only on the thin basis that they spent some time together. Excluding their kiss (which was due to hiding from Hydra), she tried to encourage him to date women not her.

The film's an adaptation. Adaptations don't have to adhere strictly to the source material. And it's Joss--I knew he was totes gonna use that creative license he was carrying ;)

Yeah, the MCU is not comic canon and never has been. And the full love stories stay in the individual movies, anyway. There isn't time to do more than was done in a big cast film like Avengers.

I look for canon relationships more on comic-based TV shows than movie franchises, because they have the time to do it right. Comic fanboys aren't showing up for a romcom, you know?

Good for him. Twitter nowadays is a toxic place, just like Tumblr. The amount of people threatening him for whatever he did with Black Widow is pathetic.

I didn't even catch that the first time around. I have to say, that kind of joke doesn't seem beyond Tony Stark. If someone is writing for a character, the only thing I would personally see as poor judgement is if it would be something anti-that character's voice. Additionally, as far as Tony is concerned (and not Joss), I don't think he would have made such a joke if it was in regards to some place on Earth with human beings. Asgardians are wickedly strong compared to humans, right? And it's in a different plane of existence. The race are thought of as gods, so yeah, I could see Tony saying that. It's tasteless, sure, but not something that he meant seriously.

But yes, Joss put the words in Tony's mouth. But, it's not the worst thing ever. I think people expected Joss to be perfectly perfect :/
