Sorry for the delayed reply. LJ seems to not be itself. Is it just me?
Anyway, thanks for explaining the "Giles is twelve" thing. His aunts were wonky in the head. If he had the mind of his older self, they could have at least made him legal :p
I'm no longer reading the comics and I know this one only from descritpions.
For me it doesn't sound to bad. I mean, for the comics in their lumbering fashion. They got the old dynamic of Spike calling out Buffy on the ways she deceives herself and they also gave their ship a more friendly aspect which would be needed to sustain it long term.
Still, for me it doesn't work, but mainly because of season 8. I have a hard time to ignore parts of a storyline. And to me, a Buffy who doesn't care about Spike being back from the dead doesn't work.

This. All of this.
But you are also right in that, for the comics, it isn't too bad.
Only read when you've posted about them. And some of the stuff on BSV during season 8. I have no idea about season 9 or whatever. I'm amazed this crap is still selling.
Read on, and you'll see why these touches are happening; though, despite the hinted at swearing in writing, I did get a laugh at the freakouts in this... ranging from Spike falling in love with women who treat him as dirt, which's dumb. All the way to Dawn having memories but no feelings- I know something of that myself, in the real world; but thank Heaven I have a conscience- I sure do, every single day in that case! A lot of this is funny, if somewhat prone to swearing, which is never funny, but the reaction sure is. If in doubt, and the story has potential to be morally acceptable, read on and push on... though I did like the space bugs touch, and that season was peculiar, Ma'am.
