Vet's Day

I know it's Veteran's Day, but the other kind of Vet is on my mind today.
I got the day off, and took the boys in for their first exam with our clinic. I got home and walked around the house looking a various bills, etc. and just a reality check for those who think cats are 'cheap' pets.
cut for those who don't like to think of pets as costing anything )

Scary how quick it adds up, isn't it?

Have you considered raw for your babies? Kittens take to it easily...

We're considering raw food. Or at least I am. Matt likes the ease of dry kitten chow. I would like to provide a bone-in ground raw food to my babies. To be honest, I think the most realistic would be to provide a live diet...but not sure I would accomplish that.

I certainly think that a raw or whole-meat diet would be the least likely to have chemicals in it. I have trouble trusting ALL food makers. Most recently the vet told me there are studies that link pull-top wet food cans to feline thyroid issues later in life. So that completely takes pop-top food out of the running 100%. We have about $50 of it in our pantry that we will use only as treat food for the guys...then no more.

So the field is still open.

Dry can lead to diabetes, cats just can't process carbs.

We do the ground because Moll is stubborn, but we're slowly moving to bone-in meats. They'll probably always get some ground because of the way the ground rabbit comes, but I'd like to get to the whole meat. It really doesn't take that much longer than dry, once you get the hang of it.
