Preparing To Vacate

I have unilaterally decided that we are desperately in need of a break so we're planning a small family vacation in a few weeks. Typically I'm drawn straight towards the highest concentration of Roadside America giant fiberglass crap I can possibly locate. My dad took me though Gatlinburg the summer Star Wars came out. We didn't do or visit any of the neat things you mentioned; that would have involved spending money or thinking hard.

It was my grandparents who took me home, though, and they also passed though Gatlinburg, so I did get to see the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum. I understand it burned down since.

I'm not sure, but if it did they either they fixed it or built a new one. See? The whole place seems to have been taken over by RipleyCoInc. If you punch up that website I posted originally you'll see about twelve different Ripley's places. The Gatlinburg I remember was full of tiny little Mom-N-Pop pay-a-quarter-to-touch-my-monkey joints and boiled antique pecan log stands. It'll be interesting to see how much of the original flavor of the place has survived.
