Smut free comm?

Dec 09, 2008 18:07

Following this discussion yesterday, ahlaiand I wanted to know how y'all feel about a comm *just* for non-smutty Janto fic? It'd be purely Janto as I know there are already a couple (and recent) Torchwood gen!fic comms popping up. If you want to avoid "Smut Sunday", and like the idea of this new comm, are you still happy to read fic that's rated NC-17 ( Read more... )

On the longer fic's, I think we would ask that a smut scene be linked as a seperate chapter with a warning so that people can skip it or not as they wish. Nothing's set in stone yet though so any ideas/suggestions are more than welcome!

I voted "other" in both, so I guess I'd better say something.

I read and added to the other discussion, so apologies if I'm being a bit thick here.

I think the idea of a smut-free community is a great one and I'd probably join it. There are some brilliant stories out there that don't involve smut and it would be a great place to find them all. So I probably should have just answered "sounds good" to the first one!

As far as the second one goes, I think you're proposing that stories in the new comm could have higher-rated content, as long as they weren't entirely higher-rated content. Or did I read that wrong? So basically, no PWPs ( ... )

Forgot to add this - I'm not great at the whole rating thing, which seems to be based on a US system. The stuff we see on the show, what would that be rated?

TW as shown without editing (as in not the supposed 'child friendly' version) is I think PG-15 with some episodes possibly going as high an an R for sexual content(Day One, Out Of Time). I don't know for certain though, the american system seems to use higher ratings for sex than violence where in the uk it tends to be the other way round.

I would call TW PG-13 to R for violence and occasional sex in the eps you mention. Definitely NOT NC-17, as that would be explicit sex. (We don't have PG-15 in movie ratings.)

I like this idea. I think a good story is simply a good story, and some of the best don't have ANY smut in them....

But..by the same token...I won't be going cold turkey on the NC17 stories.....

While I'm interested, I do think it would be a good idea to get a good working definition of what the comm will consider smut. For the most part, it's pretty obvious, but I can think of borderline cases. What is defined as smut? I assume something that fades to black would be allowed, but what about small details before fading to black? Does that make any sense?

Yeah, I do understand where you're coming from, and since this idea is still in the being though out stage, I can't give you an exact definition yet. For the msot part, I'd say that as long as the plot doesn't revolve the small details (I'm trying to think of an exampl but I can't) it should be alright.
