Smut free comm?

Dec 09, 2008 18:07

Following this discussion yesterday, ahlaiand I wanted to know how y'all feel about a comm *just* for non-smutty Janto fic? It'd be purely Janto as I know there are already a couple (and recent) Torchwood gen!fic comms popping up. If you want to avoid "Smut Sunday", and like the idea of this new comm, are you still happy to read fic that's rated NC-17 ( Read more... )

I wouldn't join a strictly non-smut community myself. Sure you'd avoid all that badly-written smut with one, but you'd still get all the bad fic and OOC character fics posted to it. ::shrug:: But that's maybe just me ;)

Also, I'm not sure if it still is, but last I heard tw_archives was a comm promoting less highly rated pieces. Though I'm not sure if that excludes smut completely.

Okay ;) Thanks for your opinion hun :) I know where you're coming from, but I know how much it annoys me to have to trudge through the 30 odd smut fics on a Sunday when it's my only day to really catch up on the fic.

Hmm, thanks, I shall go look that up.

tw_archives is intended for less graphic fic but smut does seem pop up on occasion, it's also not exclusively Jack/Ianto although most recent stories seem to be.

I am for no PWP comm, but I think that there are also very good fics that are rated NC-17 and there's smut in them. But they also have a plot, like say demotu's A Matter of Time and many others. And I think that many fics like these will be written... So what about them?

Since it's still in the being thought out stages, I can't say for certain what will and will not be allowed. Demotu's fic is a good example, as I absolutely love it to pieces, for the most part, the smut was needed for the plot so I should think that it *might* be allowed as long as there aren't 30 odd interludes of smut following ;)

I don't think I explained that very well. Sorry

No, I get it. What I don't get are those interludes. Why have them? They're not important to the fic, and sometimes a fic that is rated PG-13 is much better. But maybe it's just me, because I'm used to SGA fandom and its fanfiction...

Whew, I am glad ;P I'm not good at explaining things at all. My point exactly, there is no reason t haev them for the plot and like you say, a lot of non-smut fic is so much better!

I think a comm which encourages plot-driven stories would be great, maybe even with the word 'plot' in its title?

S'Plot?

Being up front about what the comm is about (plot-driven, beta'd stories?) should be simpler than trying to screen everything or deny fic with a certain kind of scene buried in it.

Authors can classify and warn as usual, but if all they give us is PWP, then they know what to expect in the comments. :P
