Stepping out into the crisp, cold night air, Jaejoong pulls his coat tighter around himself and makes his way to the street. The sidewalks are covered in a wet muddy slush making sloshing sounds under the steps of his feet. It's not a pretty sight, not the beautiful pristine and untouched white snow, but muddy slush on the dirty cement that people walk through without a second thought. But that was what he can only expect from the city.

It's dark and late and snowflakes are frosting his coat and hair. He doesn't care, he only has one thing in mind. His dongseng has disappeared again and he's the only one who knows where to find him. Jaejoong knows that at times like these, Changmin likes to go out. When it's late and snowing and there's hardly any chance of him being recognized, he sneaks out to his favorite place.

Jaejoong remembers fondly the first time it happened, back in their early days when they were just starting out. Changmin was still the young and intelligent yet naïve boy he was back then. And it sent everyone in an uproar when he up and disappeared one night. Manager hyung yelling and the other members panicking. No one had any idea what had happened to the boy, or how they could let something like this happen.

Jaejoong himself wasn't as close to the boy as the others were. He had imagined it was because he did in fact come off a little cold sometimes. He had never made any effort to get to know the young boy like the others did. But there he was now, looking for him in the cold night air. The other members having decided to split up and look for him around the streets.

Of course Jaejoong was the first to stumble upon him. He found him sitting on a bench in some desolate park, his arms wrapped tightly around himself and head turned upward to the darkened sky. Eyes squinted as snowflakes stuck to his thick eyelashes, and he just sat there, staring up into nothingness. His face was peaceful, innocent, and as pure as the snow itself. It was a side of Changmin Jaejoong had yet to see, and an image that he had was forever placed in his mind.

He approached the boy slowly, his boots crunching in the snow as he walked up to the side of the bench. Changmin, obviously still unaware of his presence as his eyes still stayed squinted up to the sky, unmoving. Jaejoong had to wonder what he could possibly be thinking of right now, he wondered what made this odd boy tick.

"Hey," he called suddenly. The boy jerked up in surprise and looked up a Jaejoong.

"Hyung?" He said as he whips away the snowflakes from his eyes with the back of his sleeve. Jaejoong couldn't help but think he looked cute like that and he fights back a grin.

"The others are looking for you." He states matter-of-factly, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. He knows he's sounding cold again, but he can't help it. He watches the expression on the youngest face. His eye's wide and innocent and his chapped lips forming an o shape. He thinks he looks cute again.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make everyone worry." He says. And Jaejoong feels a little bad for sounding so cold earlier.

"What are you doing out here?" He finds himself asking, trying to sound nonchalant.

"I like the snow." Changmin states simply. It takes Jaejoong back a little to hear his blunt and simple answer. This was the side of Changmin he never bothered to know. The one that was obviously intelligent, yet simple and blunt all at the same time. The one who likes to sit and think by himself. The one who appreciated little things for what they're worth even if he doesn't look like he does.

"It's cold," Jaejoong says suddenly and Changmin laughs lightly before pulling his coat tighter around himself. "You're right," he smiles up at him, his cheeks high and eyes mismatched. Jaejoong doesn't fight back his smile this time and smiles down at the younger boy. It feels like it's been forever since he smiled like this, he liked it. He unwrapped the scarf from around his neck and placed it over Changmin's shoulders.

"Lets get back before you catch a cold." Jaejoong says. It's obvious Changmin is a little bit surprised by his sudden action and attitude but he nods and stands up. "Thank you," he says quietly and Jaejoong pretends not to hear him. And they begin to walk back in companionable silence.

"Hyung," Changmin calls quietly once they reach the steps. Jaejoong doesn't say anything and waits for him to continue. "Can you not tell the others where I was?" Jaejoong thinks for a second to comprehend his request before he understands why. "Whatever, fine. Now lets go." And since that day, Jaejoong has never told the others where the youngest likes to go. And since that day Jaejoong had decided to treat the boy differently. He felt the need to care for him.

And here he was again, years later, staring at the young boy who wasn't so young anymore. He's sitting the exact same way he found him all those years ago, head turned up to the sky, eye's squinted, and a peaceful expression. Jaejoong still has the same feelings he had before. Looking at the younger man now, he doesn't think it's sweet, but breathtakingly beautiful. It was obvious he had grown from an innocent little boy to a handsome young man, and Jaejoong hadn't missed a beat.

He walked up from behind the bench, his boots crunching in the snow as they always did, and he was sure Changmin heard him this time.

"Hey," he says, just as he did all those years ago.

"Is it time to go back?" Changmin says without turning to the other man.

Jaejoong walks around the bench and takes a seat next to him, his hands still shoved in his pockets and turns his head up to the sky. "There's no rush." He finally says. And he doesn't need to look at the other to know that he's smiling.

They sit in silence for what feels like hours though it's only been a few minutes. Jaejoong squints up at the sky as snowflakes fall and melt into his eyes, and he wonders how Changmin does it. He wonders what he sits and thinks about when he leaves. Though they have been doing this for years, Jaejoong has never asked. He just goes and sits with him in a comfortable silence for a bit longer before they always head back. It's like a tradition that Jaejoong would never give up.

"Hey, Min?" Jaejoong calls without taking his eyes off the snowfall.

"Hm?" he hears Changmin say.

"Can I ask you something?"

"I don't see why not."

"Well, I was just wondering what it is you think about when you come here. I know you like the snow, but what do you think of when you watch it?"

Changmin shrugs and wipes the snow from his eyes, "I don't know. A lot of things I guess."

"Like what?"

"Like my family, my friends, my career, things like that." He explains.

Jaejoong chuckles lightly and sighs into the cold night air. "Is that it?" he says.

"What do you mean, 'is that is'? What do you want from me? Is that not enough for you?" Changmin asks sounding completely and utterly offended.

"No, it's just that seeing you sit here it looks like your thinking of something a lot deeper, Like the meaning of life or something like that. You're so superficial!" Jaejoong jokes and gets a playful hit on the arm from Changmin.

"Shut up! I think about stuff like that too sometimes. What do you think about then?"

Jaejoong falls quiet for a moment. His arms wrapped around himself as he stares into the sky and thinks for a minute. He wonders what he does think about, and then he realizes it.

"I think about you." He says without a second thought. He's expecting for Changmin to bust out laughing and say something like, "Wow, that's pretty gay." But he doesn't hear any sort of response from the other and it makes him feel a little nervous for some reason. He looks to his left only to discover he's no longer there.

"Hey, Jae!" He hears the other call from somewhere behind him. But before he can even turn around he gets a back-full of compact ice thrown at him. "What the hell?!" he shouts and turns to see a playfully grinning Changmin, looking like the old innocent boy he was all those years ago and Jaejoong can't stay mad. So without anymore words he bends over, collecting a fist full of snow himself and throwing it right back at him.

Changmin dodges and runs away, laughing his butt off. "You missed me! How could you miss me?! I was standing right there!" He calls back to him as Jaejoong takes up chase, grabbing another fistful of snow. "You moved!" he shouts. "So that doesn't count! You caught me off guard! So stand still and feel my icy wrath!" Jaejoong yells before throwing another snowball and hitting the youngest square in the back.

"Ah! Man down! Man down!" He shouts over-dramatically in English before he falls into the icy snow with a thud. Jaejoong laughs and trots over to the boy lying motionless on the snow covered ground. He stands at his side and lets out a maniacal laugh of victory screaming, "Victory is mine! Muhahahaha!"

Changmin takes this as an opportunity and tackles the older man to the ground sending them both into the cold, wet snow. "Now victory is mine!" Changmin shouts as he laughs uncontrollably on top the other man. Jaejoong can't help but smile at him. His face is lit up with laughter, his eyes mismatched, and snow falling from his hair. He finds himself thinking he still is as pure as the snow itself, and quite as beautiful too.

He feels the blood rush to his face when he realizes their positions. Changmin's lean body laying tangent to his own. His weight pushing him further into the wet snow. He's worried Changmin would be able to feel the rapid beating of his heart. And Changmin finally stops giggling and stares into the other mans dark eyes.

"Jae?" Changmin says quietly and Jaejoong can see the tinge of pink that's coming to his cheeks as well.

"Yeah?" Jaejoong says.

"You look pretty right now." Changmin says innocently and in all seriousness. It feels like he has reverted back to his old intelligent yet simple self that Jaejoong knew all those years ago. And Jaejoong smiles before wrapping his arms around the younger man's neck. "Wow, that's pretty gay." He says. And before Changmin could think of a reply he was stopped by Jaejoong's soft lips pressed against his own.

The kiss was soft and light like the snowflakes that fell around them. Changmin's warm soft lips against his own was enough to make him feel like he could melt into the snow. He was lost, yet warm, and loving it. He can feel it in the way Changmin is kissing him that he feels the same and I feels like he could melt even more.

It feels like hours have passed, yet the two don't move. They stay as they are, not worrying about anything, the other members, the people who could spot them, not even the cold snow that was slowly melting into their clothes. They can't feel, hear, or see any of it, and that's okay with them. A few minutes later and they're standing, shaking the snow from their body and hair and trying to keep warm.

Jaejoong finally turns to the youngest and smiles. Changmin is soaked from head to toe just like he is and he can see the frosted breath coming from his lips. It was getting colder and the hadn't even realized it. Changmin smiles back awkwardly and wipes the remaining snow from his hair.

"Come on, lets get back before you catch a cold." Jaejoong says, just how he did the first time all those years ago. And Changmin knows it and he smiles back at him before following him out of the park in silence.

"Hyung?" Changmin calls quietly. He hasn't called him that in years and he knows they're replaying their first time doing this, so Jaejoong says nothing and waits for him to continue. "Can this be a new tradition of ours?" Jaejoong chuckles a little but resides himself to repeat the lines he said all those years ago in all seriousness. "Whatever, fine. Now lets go." And Changmin laughs beautifully and Jaejoong can't help but laugh with him.

Something's never change. But sometimes they do for the better.
