I'm not sure if this will be entirely clear, but... Marketing to Boomers enjoys a great deal of temporal elbow room. Boomers are appealed to with cultural references to ideas and events that took place between their pre-pubescent and young adult years (early 1950s to late 1970s). I liked Star Wars as a kid, but now I don't really see what all the hype is about. I think the mailboxes are somewhat entertaining, though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. George Lucas had a better special effects crew, but Ed Wood is still the superior writer and director.

Hear hear. I've been saying the same thing since the rerelease of the original series a decade ago, but nobody wants to listen. Next month, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is hosting that goddamn touring Star Wars "science" exhibit, and I can guarantee that precious few people under the age of 35 are going to be at it. In fact, the only kids we're likely to see are going to be bored teens and preteens murmuring to each other "I wanted to see the dinosaurs, but this is something that Grandma and Grandpa were into."
