you're right. it's basically the hebrew equivilent of "r.i.p." it's an abbreviation, even -- tav-nun-tsadi-bet-hay. it means basically "may his soul be bound up in the bond of eternal life" and it comes from 1 samuel 25:29. (hooray for google helping me add smartitude to this commment! -- i didn't know where the quotation was from until now. i'm a bad jew.)

I didn't know he wrote A Boy Named Sue! Interesting. (I didn't realize he, Jack Ruby and Abe Saperstein were buried in Chicago, either.)
