I decided - while I was waiting for some new books to be delivered - that I'd re-read Orson Scott Card's Seventh Son trilogy. I hadn't read it since I was a teenager, so I guess that can only mean that I'm in for disappointment, particularly as I'm such a whiny bastard at times. Let's find out ( Read more... )

His first books are amazing. Ender's game, the Call of Earth, whatever the first book in the Seventh Son trilogy is called. All really great books. Why, oh why, did I not bother reading the rest of any of those series? I'm blaming it on second sight.

Maybe his first book in each series feel complete, so you don't feel the need to go out and get the next one but he wants to write a fantastic trilogy and drags it out for two more books?

The lesson here is that we should never revisit our childhood. A friend of mine introduced his kids to the original Transformers series. While they love it, he only winces.

Yes, I saw one of the original episodes a couple of years ago and oh dear. I'm trying to keep my memories pure and staying far away from it.
