you could also talk about geophysical boundaries on the island that causes speciation. A mountain range that divides a lizard pop that eventually evolves into 2 distinct species over time. The when the come together again sometimes they begin to rebreed together to have a 3rd species, or enough time has gone by that they can occupy the same space without competing.
