I understand your weakness completely ;)
I first discovered 'Maurice' the film when I was watching the BAFTAs (UK film awards) and they were doing a tribute to Merchant Ivory. They showed a clip from it (were Clive and Maurice are lying in the grass), and I thought: "Hmm. I really should find this." I then found the film, ADORED it. Read the book, LOVED it. Then recently I discovered the wonder that is LJ, and found this community- I had the same feeling about it when I discovered it.
The film is well worth the wait. It is just wonderful. *swoons*

I think we're all a bit weak in that way, but it hasn't hurt us any yet :-)

I forst got wind of Maurice through , through the Slasher's Coven on Fictionalley.org (A ginormous Harry Potter forum). I was so intrigued that there was actual slash literature that I had to go out and read it. I haven't seen the film yet, because I haven't found it anywhere for less than $30.00 (and even though I love slash, I'm a poor college student and I love cheap slash even more.)

Ah, the reassurance that we all apparently suffer from the same weakness. Heh. Not a bad way to suffer, anyhow.

I discovered Maurice by the coincidence of being a fan of both Merchant & Ivory films and of Forster (the two -three?- do seem to go hand in hand) and at some point I became aware that the only Forster I hadn't read and the only M&I film I hadn't seen were both...Maurice. So I remedied both as quickly as possible and lived happily ever after.

In the summer of 2003 I was reading a book by Bryne Fone entitled Homophobia: A History, which devotes about four pages to the summary of Maurice and how it reflected gay life at that time. I was like, "A gay novel in which they stay together and defy society for love? Okay, I've got to read this." :-D

I'm very glad to hear you say that, as IMO nothing is more fun than finding fans of something you really, really love.
