I read the book for the first time a few months ago and became a bit obsessed, and I watched the film for the first time last night - I'm still a bit giddy, actually.

Anyway, just a couple of questions, seeing as I've had the good luck to stumble across a community filled with other Maurice enthusiasts. :)

hmmmmmm.....

Well here goes:

1)Maurice sees Alec when he arrives at Clive's. He sees him with some girls and I think there's something about him being handsom...something about brown eyes...maybe...hmmm. Oh and there is the whole move the piano thing where Maurice pretends to look for a book...again not really sure....

2)Not a big Clive fan, feels pity for the poor guy. Could do with a good ass kicking but hey that's just my feelings about him....

Yes, I thought it must just be something to do with the way they looked at each other, although that's not that much to go on, when deciding to do something as risky as climb through a man's bedroom window! Anyway, I suppose that's probably it.

I wasn't sure whether my irritation with Clive came more from my general dislike of Hugh Grant or the character himself. I feel sorry for him, in a way, but when he's being all horrible to Maurice I can't help but think "Oh, well, he probably deserved it." :P

I preferred the Maurice/Clive scenes. I just liked the angsty, unfulfilled sexual tension aspect of it.

1. In the book, Maurice actually calls out into the night: "Come." Sounds like an invitation to me!

hi! i haven't seen the film yet but i'm very much obsessed with the book (and assume i will feel the same about the film, when i see it!). the first days after finishing the novel it i couldn't stop thinking about it and was somehow unable to concentrate on the things i should have focused on.

my opinions about the two questions you asked:
well, i guess alec climed the window because he thought he had nothing to loose, as someone else said in a comment before, but of course it was a risk he was taking.

and second: i adore maurice & alec! their waking up scenes are just one of the cutest, warmest scenes I've ever encountered in literarture.
