Probably the longest interview translation I've done so far? Old interview!

Many many thanks to the people at Kamiki's Baidu thread! Chinese translation here. And you can find the bigger scans here too.

Disclaimer: Kindly read with a pinch of salt. Capable translators, please step up? T_T
I tend to translate too liberally at times, and too literally other times. As said earlier, pinch of salt is necessary.

JUNON 2011 January Issue Kamiki Ryunosuke (for SPEC drama)

Searching for Kamiki Ryunosuke's SPEC

The mysterious boy in "SPEC" that people can't take their eyes off
Teleportation, spectacles, concert, changes in love mindset...

----------------------This part has spoilers for SPEC (drama)!------------
1. Theme is "Beautiful and innocent"
As "一" (kanji for "one", can be read as Ichi), but it is read as "二ノマエ" (Ninomae, literally means "before two" which is 'one')*, this name is very surprising. There are situations where I'm queuing at a restaurant, someone will call out "Ichi...", and I would quickly correct "Ah, it's Ninomae", that's pretty tiring (laughs) At first Director Tsutsumi said "Ninomae's SPEC is to stop time", but actually it is because his speed is too fast, so everything around him seemed to stop, bringing in elements of the Theory of Relativity. "Even though he looks like a high school student, but his mental age is that of a elementary student in a higher grade (upper primary student)". After hearing these, I decided to act this character with "beautiful and innocent" as the theme. Not having weird actions on purpose, only acting as a normal high school student, giving the impression of pureness to others. But he must also make people tremble with fear. For example, when he's just laughing normally, the expression in his eyes are unreadable to others. The setting from now on may make people feel that it's very different from before, "Eh? So Ninomae is like this", it is full of mysteries and viewers will pay more attention to Ninomae. Thus I have also researched on how to bring out his various facets. Every time Ninomae stops time he will kill a criminal, so seems like the people whom I film together with are all criminals (laughs) It was fun playing together with everyone in "All Star Kansha Sai", I challenged walking on plank at a height (what's the term for it? @_@) with Shirota (Yuu)-san. He is really a nice and dependable older brother.

*Many SPEC fans might have remembered.. but for those have not watched SPEC, "一" (one) is usually read as Ichi or Hajime etc but in SPEC "一" is read as "二ノマエ" which means "before two/in front of two" and 'one' comes before 'two'. That's kind of interesting.
----------------------Spoilers end------------

2. My SPEC
Ability to freeze the atmosphere**
If I had Ninomae's "Stop time" SPEC, I will definitely become depraved (laughs). I can still make it even if it's one minute before the time to meet. When there's only a little bit of time left, I can stop time and walk unhurriedly to the meeting place, and unfreeze time. I can sleep forever, and totally become a slob.
I have a spec too, a spec which makes the atmosphere cold** (Not literally cold) In school, when I tell a joke, the air freezes immediately, this is also considered stopping time right... (laughs) I am most confident of my memory. When filming "Kaze no Garden", I need to remember many types of flowers, and being able to remember all the flower language made me feel confident of my memory. Therefore, I did quite well in the recent World History test. The only spec I want is Ninomae Juuichi's teleportation. For example I can send the things I have on hand to a place, and I can reach any place in an instant like the wind. If it can be like this, I'll never be late (laughs). When I realise "Oh no, I have forgotten something" and go back home, it only takes a few seconds from the bus stop to the house, and from the house to bus stop. In the manga "To Aru Kagaku no Railgun", the protagonist used the special ability of teleportation, that made me very envious (laughs)

**Where everyone just goes "......" and crows go squawking by type of scene...Not that he really made the temperature lower.

3. Fashion
Obsessed with collecting spectacles
I really yearn to be able to wear glasses. Some of my friends suit wearing spectacles, that makes me very envious. So I tried to make my eyesight deteriorate by reading in dark places, playing games, I don't know why but my eyesight improved instead of deteriorating (laughs) Last year my eyesight test was 1.2, this year was 1.5. Thus I decided to wear glasses solely for decoration, went to a spectacle shop, tried on various spectacles. When a black outfit is worn, glasses with red frame serves as a finishing touch, so I chose that. People around me said it is very suitable, so I become more confident.
Recently I've been obsessed with collecting spectacles. There are black-rimmed spectacles, square tortoiseshell frame and more. And there's the silver-rimmed ones like what Oguri Shun wore in "Juui Doolittle". I look like a student council chairman with those, it makes me look smart (laughs). After wearing glasses, the slight differences in the frame thickness can create different effects, I find it very fun. Right now I only have 5 pairs, but I want to continue collecting.
Regarding clothes, I think that I have gradually started paying attention to accessories and details. Accessories can change the feel of the entire outfit, that is very interesting. I'm happy when there's a contrast too. For example when comfortable-looking clothes is paired with a long vest, it looks cool. Currently I'm trying out different things.

4.High school life
A mock shop selling churros
High school life is still fun. For this year's cultural/school festival, we opened a mock shop selling takoyaki and churros. About 100+ sets were sold, other shops sold until about 4.30pm but at around 1.30pm we had already sold out. The next 3 hours was spent cleaning up the stall, very leisurely time (laughs). My job is to man the cash register. All I need to do is to take the entrance ticket and say "Yes, 1 churro, 1 juice, please choose your beverage over there", but it became a beautiful memory. I was active during the sports festival too. Just that I was third in 100m race, I guess I had aged since becoming a second year student*** (laughs) After the chasing and hurrying, in the end I was unfortunately defeated by a small margin.
At the concert*** I had a dance performance with 3 girls, and we danced to Britney Spears (laughs) We practiced after school, and performed a girls' dance. Using the words of people who saw it, "Your rhythm is the only one different from others" (laughs) What made me really happy was when the performers' names were being announced, the moment my name "Kamiki Ryunosuke" was broadcasted, I could hear guys cheering "Woosh! Ryu~!" The friends whom I'm always playing with were also cheering, because of that I became excited. After that, when I watched the recording, I realised that I was the only one making such big movements (laughs) In terms of studies, I had worked hard for my mid-term test. I understood once again the advantages of arranging notes my own way.

***I guess he was 1st or 2nd place in his first year of high school? Isn't 3rd quite good too |D;
***発表会 (Happyoukai), which is the performance segment of the school festival (or so I've always thought it to be). I decided to call it "concert" because I can't recall a better term for it right now..

5. Love
In the past I always wished to "be more popular!" (laughs), but after becoming a 2nd year high school student, there were some changes. Of course, I still harbour hopes of becoming popular like normal boys do, but the feelings of wanting to make everyone to be happy has become stronger. In addition, compared to being popular amongst many people, I would prefer to experience being loved deeply by one person. This is my new level of understanding. The type I like are those who can basically greet properly and say "Sorry" (gomen nasai), "Thank you"****. Then, tsunderes are the best (laughs). In other words people with a contrast are appealing. For example, when a rather gloomy girl says "Thank you" while beaming, the "Doki!" feeling will come (laughs) (someone been watching Kimi ni Todoke?) As for girls who look strong but display a heavily reliant side, this makes the heart beat faster too. In a certain sense, having both positive and negative parts is the best.
It will be Christmas soon. The illuminations at the streets are full of couples. It's good seeing them bask in happiness. If I had a girlfriend, I would still want to have special date, a date full of Christmas feel. I'll dress up well and prepare a present. For example we can shop at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, look at the beautiful lights while walking, and ride the ferris wheel. If it snowed it'll be even better.

****What he means is a well mannered person who greets others, apologises/excuses/thanks others properly. So he likes well-mannered tsunderes?
Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse looks really nice and romantic \o\

Even if they didn't dance the exact same steps of Britney Spears' choreography, I still find it hard to imagine Kamiki... dancing... to... Britney... Can't fight the urge to laugh.
