You're very articulate and apparently a mind reader, because we agree completely.
So, here's my two cents:P
I love that they get mad and exasperate each other, they laugh together, she gets him to change shirts and lighten up. She grounds him and he makes her feel needed, wanted, and not in a sexual way either. In a way that means they're friends first, no matter what, and that the love that springs from that is rock solid. I love when they disagree, when they fight and when they're researching together. I love when he tried to protect her from the autopsy photos in Billy, even though the Powers had already given her the 3D version - I love that, in the end, she thinks he's melodramatic.
I love that she treats his blood like it's no big deal.
There's a scene between them, in s2, before the crap went down, that I adore. It's a subtle one. In Untouched, she's trying to convince him to give Gunn a paycheck and Gunn walks in, says something about getting compensation and she nudges him from behind
( ... )
Oh oh oh! How could I forget that SCENE from Untouched. I love it. I pretty much just like any time Cordelia is harrassing Angel and, despite his irritation, he concedes whatever point she's trying to make.
It also reminds me of a scene in Carpe Noctem, where Cordelia tries to harangue Angel into disposing of Fred's crush, and she shoves him into the room and announces: "Angel has something to say!" Ha!
And oh, I wasn't trying to imply I didn't like the clothes thing. I actually love it-- two completely antithetical characters, almost, except for the fact that they both enjoy throwing money away on expensive clothes. Nice! And the end of Disharmony is at least in their top 5 scenes. It makes me grin so hard I feel like my teeth are all over my face.
And how about that scene earlier, when she sticks her tongue out at him, and he gives that reluctant smile like she charms him despite his crappy mood. *loves*
Truthfully, my favorite setting for fic is s2, because we've got it all, dark!Angel, QueenC/Vision Girl, and the team isn't fractured like it was towards the middle of s3.
Yes! Especially in the earlier seasons, when they were still relatively unscathed. A lot of my top moments for them aren't their lovey-dovey coupleness, but the scenes when they're just buddying around and putting up with each other.
And yes, impossibly beautiful! As summarized by your icon.
On a side note: I recently read your Angels & Insects / Prometheus Unbound, and may I just say, WOW. I've been gathering my thoughts to leave some more articulate feedback, but I just want to give you that in the interim. And since you rocked the C/A icon, I'll rock my A/S one in reply!
Thank you so much! I'm really happy you liked both fics. That particular 'verse is close to my heart. :)
I think the Cordy/Angel dynamic kind of mirrors Spike/Angel in a lot of ways. Angel is a lot nicer to Cordelia, and she doesn't annoy him half as much as Spike does; but they both are unafraid to call Angel on his bullshit, and Angel trusts them both implicitly in his darkest moments. Plus, both pairings have that 1940s screwball romance, Hepburn/Tracy kind of dynamic. I love that.
Word to everything you guys have said. They are the first couple I have ever willed to get together - the friendship, the sincerity, the honesty, the warmth, the genuine affection, the little touches, the little glances, the total having each other's backs, the laughs, the smiles, the giggles, the disappointments, the understanding............damn, how perfect were they!
I just wish their more "intimate" moments weren't the result of mind-whammying, different alternate realities - did not do the characters and their relationship justice in any way!
The only time we get to see the real A/C in romance mode is YW and they absolutely *nailed* everything in that final scene!
How did I miss this comment? Thanks for eating my notification, lj! Whore.
Yes yes and yes! It's nice to see a relationship that actually evolves over the course of years-- rare on a lot of television shows-- and which only deepens as time passes. You listed everything about the relationship that I absolutely adore.
And YW was definitely a wonderful, albeit short, loveletter to the two characters and their relationship. That final scene breaks my heart.
i.e. missing my comment - that's quite alright mph. Unfortunately your comprehensive synopsis has just kick-started my C/A loving all over again. I know C/A'ers are quite the minority fan-base wise, but aw dammit, 3 years after Ats' cancellation, they still manage to pull at the heartstrings
