You know, I've been sitting here thinking about Cordelia and reading some old meta on her and her characterization over the course of the series (and, of course, the dubious behind-the-scenes issues with CC) and just feeling really disappointed with it, frankly.

I agree with a good deal of this, doll, and some of what you've said I've been thinking and wanting to say for a long time. There is an abundance of dark fic involved for other pairings and ships, and I just wonder why it's so hard to write the same for C/A. Why is it hard to find something interesting to say about Cordelia as a character?

I have so much real life stuff to do right now, so I'll come back when I've got time to really get into it, but I just wanted you to know *pumps fist* right on!

Also, I'm not surprised that the c/a scene in Awakening looks so passionless. She was around five months pregnant and probably couldn't get into the passionate clinch that was needed, and I think DB was very respectable to her in treating her gently and not trying to tongue wrestle her.

You bring up a wonderful point about the scene in Awakening; that hadn't really occurred to me. Poor thing!

And yes: C/A solidarity! And I think a lot of people simply avoid Cordelia as a character; a lot of authors, I think, vehemently disagree with the changes brought upon her character and, as a result, have little desire to write her. And I think that s3/s4 turned her into such a flat, uninteresting character that it makes it even more difficult. I have trouble, myself, writing anything in s3 because I'm not exactly sure how to go about it.

We should have a C/A darkfic challenge or ficathon or something. I don't know how interested fandom would be, but I think it would be bangin'.

If I write Cordy/Angel, or just Cordy, set in s3, it's nearly always the first third. I can't deal with anything after Darla shows up.

And yes, we def should have a darkfic thing. I'm no good with running them but I can def show up with fic, dammit. :D I've been aching to take them dark for a long time. I think there's an unexplored symbiotic relationship between Angel and Cordelia that's rife with creative avenues. Cordelia's need to protect Angel, to have him need her could be tweaked into something darker, for instance - and turned into fic gold in the right hands.

Angel's got a well known weakness for seers, and that in itself....*shivers*.

lol. I'm not saying that I'm gonna have her peg him, not yet anyway, but I want to see where this could go - even if it's just a two-writer ficathon.

I love all aspects of my OTP, the light and the friendship and the mutual support and admiration but I'm ready for darker.

Well I'm throwing down the gauntlet for the two of us: let's write some darkfic! It's not so much that I want mad kinky stuff-- although the pegging thing? uh, YES!-- but more that I just want something that really delves into the characters (Cordelia more than Angel, I suppose). Even if it's genfic with C/A UST.

I always wanted to write something s5, where Cordelia is resurrected by some outside force and things get bad for her and Angel. I imagine that, if Cordelia had just woken up in season 5, she would have had a lot of pent up issues to deal with-- with herself, Angel, Connor, Wesley, and pretty much everyone.

And I like the schmoopy stuff too. But I want to see something dark and thorough and kind of scary, you know?
