Apr 28, 2007 17:47

Parker was hiding. Oh yes.

This week had included killing Jake and a kick-ass time tracking Anders down and stealing his iPod. Then Caritas and singing with Jack, talking with Jarod, Jack, and Isabel.

Plus a couple weird encounters with Aly-- Alianne? Whoever.

After visiting Isabel, she snuck back into her room and carefully shut the door ( Read more... )

Alanna was abosolutely positive that Parker was also small, which is why there was a knocking on Parker's door.

Parker made her second cup of cocoa for the evening, and asked, "Marshmellows or whipped cream or both?" before pulling out a carton of cream, and pouring some for Faithful into a dish. "Right. Knights and fighting and dragons and castles.... Hmmm." One that Sydney told her ages ago came back to her, and she grinned, hitting the button for the microwave. "Once upon a time, a looooong time ago, there was a castle in a far away land. And underneath the castle slept a dragon, named Faronika."

Faithful half fell into the dish and began lapping at the cream. "Both please." Alanna said in a quiet whisper.

Parker put marshmellows in the cocoa, then a healthy squirt of whipped cream, and took it over to Alanna. "Right." She grinned at Faithful, and sat down on the bed. "Faronika stayed asleep unless someone put their hand in the handprint in the dungeons. It was carved into the wall right outside the cells. For many many years, no one did this, until the ruling family thought it was a legend. One day, the enemies of the land attacked, and captured the castle. And their commander was very proud, and wanted to inspect every inch of his new domain."

"Uh oh!" Alanna said in a loud whisper and took a large swallow of her hot chocolate.

"You can tell where this is going, can't you?" Parker grinned. "He was *so* sure of himself, he put his hand in the handprint. Annnnd... the earth shook! Annnd trees fell over! And one of the towers that wasn't very well attached. And then a huge, gigantic spout of water rose up from the lake, and Faronika flew out of the water, and starting setting fire to everything with her hot breath."

"Did she set fire to the stupid prince?" Alanna asked gleefully.

Parker snickered. Yay for bloodthirstiness transcending age. "She did. He was on the tallest parapet, and he thought he'd shoot her with a bow and arrow. And Faronika huffed--" Parker huffed out, hard. "And he was a bunch of glowy ashes." She grinned. "So. They asked the wisest knight in the land, help us, help us, she's going to burn us up!"

Alanna leaned forward. "Did the wisest knight roll his eyes and call them all bad words I'm not 'possed to know?"

"She did, because she *told* them to cover up that handprint before the bad prince got there, but no one listened." Parker shook her head in amusement. "Lots of bad words. Luckily, she knew the right words and the right things to do to put Faronika back to sleep again, too. But she had to be very, very brave."

Parker grinned. "Yay. I'm glad. And Faronika was tricked back into sleep under the castle, under the lake, far far away." She reached down to pet Faithful. "And when you're big, you'll do the same."

Alanna frowned. "There are no dragons in Tortall. Yet"

"Too bad. Although, good for the castles and the cattle, I guess." Parker grinned a little. Tiny Alanna was very determined and amusing. "Maybe there'll be some by the time you're a knight."

Alanna frowned. "The Old Ones locked away all the dragons and monsters and stuff in the Other Realm and they live with the gods now."
