Great chapter. Background narrative via the profiling was a nice device, coffee with friends introducing more important characters, and that stalwart of this type of drama, the loud-mouth who doesn't think the kid can do it!
Jared can still back away from his status as Lehne's only surviving victim...all he did was declare 'I've been there' he could've just meant he'd been assaulted. Although if Lehne's goons are going to track him down, I guess his true past has to be revealed at some point.
You're ticking all the boxes here and I'm really enjoying the story! :)

And yes, you hit the nail on the head lol. Jared didn't admit to being the only survivor. He just admitted that he'd been attacked. A lot of the team didn't know...and only some people know Lehne did it. Jensen is not one of them at the moment...lol.
