question e books

I have no more room for books!  I want to start reading books that I can download to a device.  One of my sisters has a new Kindell and its very nice, but I don't think I want a Kindell because Amazon forces you to only buy books from them.  I read a book a day, so I can't afford $10.00 each.  My other sister has a Sony and at least she has some ( Read more... )

I have the Sony reader, and I'm happy with it, and I load it with things I download for free from the Gutenberg Project...

There's nearly thirty thousand books in a wide variety of languages and formats. They're all in the public domain, which is why they are free. So, if you've had a hankering to read Moby Dick, you'll find it there, but probably not any Tom Clancy novels, or any recent vampire fiction, if you get my meaning. Still, it's easier than picking them up at the bookstore, and free.

Oh, and if I'd used the Kindle, I gather that I'd have to pay for it to be transferred via Amazon, though I don't really know how much it would cost, even though the files are free. That's why I chose the Sony. I also found that Orwell fiasco colored my choice.
