I can't even say that's the stupidest thing I've read all day because I'm writing a paper on beauty pageants.

It's just so baffling. Why wouldn't women like fantasy? Even more ridiculous to suggest that the sexy parts are what will keep us interested. Yeah, I'm way more interested in looking at boobs than watching men sword fight. Pssh.

Yeah, I have no idea how the writer reached that conclusion. The review as a whole is bizarre; aside from the 'fantasy is ~boy fiction~ and women don't like it' bit I'm not even sure whether she is ripping into sex-positive attitudes or something else entirely. But clearly women are ~wenches~ who fell for the evil patronizing male author who lured them in with teh sexx0rz. Yeesh.

I just laughed reading it, thinking about the fact that my LJ friends list is made up entirely of women who love fantasy. So I wanted to share.

My paper is actually more about how western media responded to a pageant in Saudi Arabia called Miss Beautiful Morals. Some pretty ignorant things were said.

Heh. So true. But I wonder, if they say women don't like fantasy so they had to throw in sex, does that mean men like fantasy so don't care about the sex?
