Off Gaurd Around Mrs. Higurashi
“Mom, I’m home.”
Mrs. Higurashi stepped out from the kitchen. There was an odd half smile on her face as she wiped her hands on a dish towel. “How was school, dear?”
Kagome eyed her, then walked past her into the kitchen She sat heavily at the table. “Well, I think I passed everything alright. The last test was murder.”
“I don’t quite have dinner ready. I became distracted…”
The girl quirked an eyebrow. “Oh? Did Inuyasha stay out of trouble?”
Her mother snorted, suppressing a laugh. “He has been on his best behavior. He slept most of the day.”
“Did he?” Surprised, Kagome began to stand to check on her friend. “I hope he is feeling alright.”
“Oh honey I’m sure he’s just fi-”
It was then the hanyou in question stumbled into the occupied kitchen. He blinked at the two and rubbed his left eye with his wrist. “Are we going to have ramen?”
Mrs. Higurashi placed a hand over her mouth and nodded, mumbling “Sure, dear. Anything you’d like.”
Kagome stood beside her pulled out chair dumbstruck. Inuyasha eyed her slowly, then left the room with a shrug.
“M-mom?”
“You know how tangled his hair gets and I figured I could get it brushed out if I caught him while he slept…”
She turned to her, mouth still hanging open. “Mom, he has three bows in his hair.”
The woman bit her lip, desperately trying not to laugh. “I got a little carried away-”
“And makeup on half his face?”
“He was sleeping on his side.”
Suddenly there was a roar from the direction of the bathroom. Kagome nodded and pushed her chair under to go deal with the boy. “I hope you have enough ramen for bribery.”
