The young monk crouched at the modest shrine the town had created after his party defeated the goat youkai’s spirit. Miroku held back a snicker as he pressed his hands together and kept his eyes screwed shut. A goat for Buddha’s sake. The old thing didn’t even mean any harm. His bones had been buried at the edge of town and he simply remained with him.
He was scaring the children though.
Miroku sighed as he opened his eyes. There was no sense in it. He couldn’t bring himself to properly dedicate himself to prayer. He felt unfulfilled as an exorcist.
With a sigh that brushed his bangs out of his eyes, the monk grabbed his staff and used it to get to his feet. He might as well meet with the rest of his group so that they may be on their way. He stopped when he turned and saw a young woman stand up from the small shrine. She was soft looking with youthful curves, and he allowed himself a modest glance to her bottom.
How had he missed that kneeling beside him?
It was all Sango’s doing. The woman had him fully distracted.
The young woman gave him a slight nod as she left the grounds. With a sigh, the monk began to leave, but just then something glinted in the sun, catching his eye. He tilted his head to better view the item.
It was a golden ring with a beauty of a purple gem at its center.
“Ooo …um,” he glanced around to make sure no one was watching. “Pretty.” He snatched it up and buried it in his robes.
With a crooked grin, the young man left the shrine with a bounce to his step, feeling much more fulfilled as an exorcist.
