Dont dismiss extenuating circumstances out of hand tho - it has its uses. My dyslexic students can choose whether to state their dyslexia or not - if they do, there are all sorts of rules and regs that have to be taken into account - and quite right too. Youre not trying to get out of anything - you have the right to have your extenuating circumstances taken into account.
