So... I'm having a St. Peter's Old-Style Porter. They brew in the UK. It doesn't taste like American stuff with malty roast hops with orange and pumpkin and licorice thrown in for the lulz or anything like that. No, this stuff is like, "beer - it's supposed to taste like goddamned fermented grain, and you're going to DRINK GRAIN and LIKE IT!" It's ( Read more... )

Sounds delish!
On the'delicious things from the UK that are well crafted but not "crafty"' front, I'd like to recommend Wychwood's brown ale named 'Hobgoblin', which I pestered my bar-of-habit into stocking, and which they're now planning to carry regularly, based on its popularity with the patrons who drink beer because they LIKE BEER. Nice simple straightforward beer, which would probably bitch if one mentioned it as 'fruity' or 'hoppy' or something other than 'damned good beer'.

I don't know if it's the best beer ever, but it tastes like goddamned beer and my breath is horrible.

I've had the Hobgoblin. I don't remember it very well other than that it tasted like beer and I'd have it again.

Sounds excellent. I have been out of the beer snobbery ring for a bit on account of being a totally broke student. Hopefully over the next month I'll have money to waste on fermented beverages again.

I keep meaning to try Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout.

I like how one of the reviewers said it was "chewy."

You'd think that Old Rasputin, if it lived up its name, would leave you feeling poisoned, stabbed, castrated, drowned and frozen?

Oh, yeah. That one. It tastes like thick liquid death.
