Hey, everyone! Haggard is 'completely heterosexual' now!

First of all, who wants to place bets? Second of all, who wants to take on the refutation challenge? I'm looking at you, solomoxenYeah, so isn't that just wonderful? Now Ted Haggard has gone astray, wandered from the straight and narrow just like King David once did, we all get to forgive him like ( Read more... )

well, without doing ACTUAL RESEARCH, and i don't feel like getting into it that far, i can't do a real refutation, but the long and short of it in my head is that people lie; and in this case, why wouldn't he lie? Fundie NutJobs (TM) are more than happy to have "reformed" sinners in their congregations, because they get to point at them and say "look, jesus saved the life of that poor sinner!" as if giving head to another guy was a fate worse than death.

Yeah, that's kind of the point. And the best way to refute his reformation is with a constructive proof. But giving head to *Ted Haggard* might be a fate worse than death.

I guess as long as he gives up sex with men, he qualifies. I mean, I'd give him his Heterosexual Union card back.

I believe Mark Twain said something about smoking once...

What did he say? That "a smoke is a good walk spoiled"? No, wait, that wasn't it.

Well, it says right here on the back of my Heterosexual Local#69 card, that I just have to refrain from having sex with people of my gender, and pay the dues, to stay current. Are there some fine print by-laws I missed? I haven't been to a HU meeting in just years, so I might not be au courant. ;p

I'd have to say that it is amazing what Medical Science can do nowadays.

It must be an import from the Soviets -:)

Huh? Are you saying that he got that degayifying genetic therapy they were perfecting on sheep that I heard about in the news?

(You know, they were studying homosexuality somewhere, and certain segments of the GLBT community went all Chicken Little over it, as if making everyone straight was the only possible motive or application.)

Hee

Indeed -:)

My thoughts come from this:

My russian friend gave me this book of academic essays by non-Russians about how pop culture is affecting Russia. The one I grokked was about the Russian notion of sexual identity vs. personal identity. The author thought that Russians consider themselves heterosexual, separating their identity from their sexual acts. The reason given for this was that Russia never had a Stonewall politicizing sexuality.

(But then the author also describe the forced sex changes--eww--done to Lesbians and Gays in the past by the government, so, that would give incentive for everyone considering themselves Heterosexual)

This thought led to the stereotypical notion of the Soviets as harsh and stark and blunt.

(with a dash of the mystical thrown in--I've heard enough about the Soviet mystical side--rational and otherwise--to be really intrigued)

And aboot the degayifying genetic therapy on sheep I have not heard anything about. I am verklempt.

Yeah, they were researching the genetics of sheep gayness. The development of a "therapy" was not in any way given as a motive.
