summer burningpath June 19 2010, 13:26:35 UTC
[Strange that such a warm time belongs to such a cruel, crazed creature. The Burning Path waits above the world, sallow skinned and sunken eyed, disinterested in the ant like scurry of all the life waiting beneath him. He has come only to burn, and though from a distance the daystar's spirit appears to offer sparkling motes and warm days, its true fury will always show itself.]

[The Burning Path's pale daughter is invigorated by his cruel light, she stands taller, her dark eyes opening wide to take in all the warmth she can, pulling in his poisons.]

[Helius can only watch, eyes filled with both fascination and fear, incapable of fully understanding. Time has stopped in his world--seasons are no longer a reality. Where there was snow, the snow will not melt away. Where there was sunlight, there will always be sunlight. Where time stopped at night, it will remain night. There are so many changes and shifts in these worlds...]

[Her gaze shifts towards him curiously, takes in his expression without really understanding it. But she knows him, and so she goes to him.]

Are you well, Helius?

[There's a beat. He nods, politely, unsmiling. His expression isn't grave, however. Perhaps just a little nervous.]

... Yes.

[another pause.] I've never seen this before...

[The cervid queen has hardly stirred since the birth of her daughter, has kept to the woods, to the shade and to the quiet. She has not the strength to change her patterns now, but she is drawn to the edge of her domain, gazing out from the tree trunk, appreciating that at times her brother may be beautiful.]

[Nearly silent now, the Blizzardseason cannot stand against The Burning Path, he is still too much for her to fight. Only those that have known her will see her now, hear her voice drifting mournfully on the arid breeze.]

[he can hear her because she's something he was born to hear. northwind mother is far away and the only familiar note is this one, and even after all things, it's comfort. he's definitely no summer child; he shrinks to shade in the heat, finding every mile unsatisfying and longer than before. he's resolved to stay in one place until dark when moving is stifled less, but he's not too happy about it. it's not shameful to be scared of the dark at his age.]

[She is subdued in coming to him, a chill tickle across the back of his neck before she settles in beside him. The dark-eyed girl, and not the raging blizzard bitch that some have come to know.]

Hello, Chemin.

[cold's the last thing he expects even if it is what he'd been pining for-- Chemin's reaction is almost comical given his look and nature.

a couple seconds tick by with him half-standing with an arm flailed out and away and big eyes staring and not understanding until it clicks, and even a second after that he's frozen, stuck between what he's taught and the fact that if he tried moving any other way but down, he'd be falling over. so he sits back down as slowly as he can make himself, never moving his face and eyes away from her.

the gaping goes on with a couple dry swallows before there's words.]

H. Hello. Ma'am.

[The green-eyed boy must chase his hated sister across the landscape to claim the his time in power, twist it from her cold fingers, and withstand the snapping of her wolves. He would never imagine giving such trouble to his older brother. Even if his brother's touch burns even him, Spring Reposing Within offers up the end of his reign.

He watches the light flare and the grass begin to wither.]

[It's a lot easier to stay in the fur right now, even though he usually prefers coming to Spring as a boy. It's the tiger than comes up beside him, nudging his head up under Spring's hand.]

[Spring lifts his hand from the tiger's fur, gazing off.]

I am over now, tiger, there is no call for you to be here.

[He gives a short, low, open-mouthed noise. Pushes his head in against Spring's side, looking up with blue eyes.]
