I'm glad to hear it wasn't just me! It wasn't only that the movie was a hetero(sexist) love story between two robots -- it's that they were such cliches. I'm sure that was supposed to be cute, but to me it was just depressing.
I'm so with you on the cartoon thing! Clearly marketed at 'normal' (read: heterosexual) children. I was so liberated when I first saw Sailor Moon and other Japanese anime as a child/teenager. I mean, cute androgynous boys and girl on girl action:)))
I don't think it was marketed at "normal" children at all, and that's the problem. Movies aimed at children teach children, and this one (intentionally or not) teaches them that everything and everyone has binary, normative gender, and if you don't, there's something wrong with you.
Anime, well, there is a lot more androgyny, at least from a Western viewer's perspective. But after a couple of years living in Japan, I don't really find most of it liberating -- Japanese gender norms and values are different, but they're just as strict. A lot of anime is really misogynistic and teaches that Western features are more desirable than Asian ones.
Hayao Miyazaki is probably my favorite animated filmmaker, and one of the many things I love about him is his conscious avoidance of all of the above.
I am normally not snarky about people's looks. In this case, I judge, because it's a poor quality enhancement.
But she has a GIANT set of super white veneers. At least I hope they are veneers. Anyway, giant overbite, and her teeth are just two sizes too big for her head. Something about her teeth/jaw is just, well, off.
Like, your teeth shouldn't be as big as your boobs. Especially when your boobs are bigger than your head.
On the plus side, you know the hot tub orgy in inevitable. And you know she will be there.
