So today we discovered ice damage to a corner of the roof of one section of our house. (Note to self: Start asking around about a good metal-roofing contractor.) Plus we have decided that it's probably time to euthanize the old dog. Surprisingly, I am doing pretty well. The mental/physical crash-and-burn of the last couple of weeks is over

Good luck with the roofing. We've just had water back up in the garage drain and the long-term prognosis is to replace the entire drainpipe (which is made of the crap corrugated tubing you usually see in weeping tiles, not in proper drains) and, as there's unevenness in our driveway, we were thinking of redoing that at some point a few years hence but not right now, please! (Please let the drain hold a few years longer!) New roof is next year for us (fencing the backyard is this year's gift to the money pit).
As for the comfort movie, I recommend Jane Austen -- I always find Sense and Sensibility to be a delicious choice (Alan Rickman is such a wonderful Brandon) or Persuasion with Amanda Root.

I've reached the scene in which Lady Russell tries to persuade Anne to marry the devious cousin. This truly is one of my all-time favorite films. :D
