Art post for "You Only Feel When It's Lost"
Here are the illustrations I did for amybond45's awesome fanfic called "You Only Feel When It´s Lost". It's a wonderfully whimsical and emotional story that takes you down Memory Lane in a slightly different way to what you might be used to. The descriptive text of the story struck me and I was not disappointed: a beautifully woven fanfic with many tropes that appealed to me. You can read the fanfic here: LJ | A03
I used Derwent watercolour pens, Winston & Newton watercolours and Van Gogh pastels. The paper is some of the not-best-possible watercolour paper.
After reading the story, the blood moon emerged as a leitmotif/symbol for me, so it is repeated in all these pictures.
Sam trying to do a magic trick was, for me, a clear visualization, so all I had to do was sit Sam down on the floor. Because of the story, there can't be any magical effects in the picture.
Sam hugging Dean. Dean looks sad. Sam is possessive, but he's not entirely happy either. A delicate moment with a lot of angst and love at the same time.
Lighter version.
For the cover I wanted movement, Impala driving towards the horizon and also a kind of restless night shared by Sam and Dean. The image was initially horizontal, but this seemed to work better. Unlike the hugging shot, here it is Dean who is holding Sam in his arms.

Sam and another Sam. There's no actual scene in the story, but the concept was still fun to play with.
