The New Year's Issue

Long time no see.

I would like to wish everyone out there a happy New Year, and hope 2013 brings good things to all.

As the Mayan Calendar ran out of room and we had no moon/asteroid/Lavos hit our planet to bring all existence to an end, I decided to take some time to write in the seemingly-abandoned journal.

I know many people are jumping LJ's ship in favour of Dreamwidth or other blog-friendly places. So sad how the once-vibrant LJ has fallen. That's what happens when you repeatedly disrespect your customer base, though. :/

Man, I still want to learn more about Pygmalion. I remember it gave you problems before, but you've spoken of it favourably since then. And I just love the creepiness factors I've read of it here.

This perhaps shows how out of it I've been, but what exactly happened that would drive people away from LJ?

As far as Pygmalion, my main issue is that most of the developments I've seen in-game have been found entirely by accident and I've yet to figure out how to replicate them. I know quite a bit of the story, but am missing several parts (how to unlock Rupee and Terrale's routes, how to get the "ending" for Accele's route).

It's been going for years, ever since LJ was sold to a company that moved all the major site support and operations to Russia. The site goes down more and more often, and the staff refuse to listen to user input. It's been a downhill slide for years now. I haven't left, but most of my Friends list has. :(

That's really weird that it would be so difficult to navigate Pygmalion. Isn't moving the story (and the "pixelated character interactions") along kinda what the whole thing is supposed to be about? Making it impossible to tell what you're supposed to do next seems entirely counterproductive.

I have my own hypotheses on how the game works. The one that seems most likely is that...erm...let's go over the engine first ( ... )

Hi Ruis,

It's nice to see you again. Will you be moving this blog somewhere else on the internet?

It'll be interesting to see who they choose to voice Akiha for the Tsukihime remake. I still want to hear Shizuka Itou, though it's far likelier that Akiha's seiyuu from Carnival Phantasm (named "Hitomi") will be chosen due to her better "imouto" voice. Oh well, few seiyuus can do the ojou-sama voice like Shizuka Itou could and can.

Did you look into White Album 2: Closing Chapter, one of the bestselling games last year?

At the moment I don't know. I know some have made the move, and I'm trying to decide whether I should do the same.

I'd lean toward Itou Shizuka only because as mentioned, Akiha is a special blend of stereotypes. The way she's been voiced up until now feels about right, IMO. Not too keen on her being replaced, unless Itou-san decided against voicing Akiha for whatever reason (schedule conflicts, simply not wanting to do the character anymore).

Considering the voice work in Melty Blood Actress Again was questionable in certain parts (particularly Ciel), it could go either way, IMO.

If they are making the remake of Tsukihime with 18+ content (as the original was, though it's unlikely since the pressure to sell to the maximum amount of customers is high), then it's a tossup as to whether Shizuka Itou or Hitomi will be cast as Akiha since both have worked in eroge before. An 18+ version of Arcueid would probably return to Hitomi Nabatame since Ryouka Yuzuki intentionally left that kind of work behind a long time ago.

Any new games you'll likely be reviewing then?

I'm tempted to review Hyakki Yakou but I wasn't too happy with how that ended. Great start, kinda meh finish. Aside from that, I'm just playing random things until I get that "this game deserves a review" feeling.
