John, i am writing this comment, not to fulfill some idea of a two word a year friendship, or to relive the good old days (I realize now they weren't the best), or to parrot your post for the hell of it. I am writing this comment because I ponder the same things you do, the masks that is. I was thinking, everyone wears a mask, me, you, my friends, your friends, our parents, our relatives, our teachers, everyone. And yes, I think pain is the reason. The more intense the mask, usually the more intense or affecting the pain was. That thought has recently made me resolved to be honest to whomever I can, including you (hence this post). I am more than sorry or occasionally remorsefull that our friendship has declined because of lack of use (if that makes sense), In a word, it sucks major butt that we can't communicate because you are such a freaking awsome person, and I hate it that we have been excommunicated from each other by life
