We found the Canon Powershot G9 at Fry's; it seems to be the sort of thing we're looking for. 12.something megapixels, manual setting, AV setting, TV setting, a ridiculously high macro setting, and a way to adjust the ISO, most of the settings found on our EOS. Unfortunately it's about $500 everywhere

You should look on Ebay if you are interested because you can find new in box things for cheaper then in the stores. Just an idea. Can't promise that it would be affordable though.
