You know fandom has ruined me.

I'm sitting in Sadler's Wells watching the Glydebourne Opera Company doing L'Elisir d'Amore, and more specfically listening to the incredible Peter Auty singing the unforgettable aria Una furtiva lagrima with a heartbreaking tone and simplicity (and oh I don't know about opera but sometimes it's just that good that ( Read more... )

It is a wonderful Aria, and Peter Auty is at least a treble who fulfilled his potential. Must try and watch The Snowman this year to appreciate his performance, as opposed to the over-hyped Aled Jones one...

If I never knew the name of the real Snowman kid I'd forgotten, that's completely genius! He was far better than Aled back then and he's better by an incredibly large multiple now!

(I grew up hearing over and over that it wasn't really Aled because Barry Rose who ahd been at St Pauls came and was Master of Music at the Cathedral here and he made a big point of that, and of claiming that most of our trebles were better than Aled too *g*)

I fear sadly not but then there were so many people there and clearly she would have been backstage or (seeing as it was opera not ballet) sitting in the important seats, and I think enjoying herself very much, rather than at the back where we were *g*
