I hate phone calls. If I reallyreallyreally *have* to, I write down everything I need to say. And sometimes what I'd like the other person to say too... Like a script. Except they never stick to it. I think I'm beginning to prefer answering machines because then I just read my bit and put the phone down. But getting the nerve to make the call and no answer is rubbish.
That's basically what I did in the end, wrote out the questions/things I needed to say and then took several deep breaths and reminded myself that if the conversation achieved its aims I'd never have to speak to this person again so however stupid it sounded it wouldn't matter. I did get through in the end thank goodness!
ohhh, that's happened to me and it's awful! I'd been psyching myself up for literally *weeks*, and then there was no answer! And it really does put you off making the other calls you need to.
*sobs* at the Cripple of Inishmaan. I really regret not going now, only it *was* the right decision at the time. Oh well. Another one for time travel theatre. *g*
That's very true, unfortunately there wasn't an answerphone this time so I just had to call again but answerphones are in some ways better than talking to actual people.
