I posted a poll on Facebook, asking people to help me choose a name for my new sewing blog. Unfortunately the results were not really helpful. I didn't get more than one vote on any option. So I am asking people to give me feedback here. Please choose one of these names, going on the assumption that the blog will only

Before I read the article, I thought Path of Needles sounded very dark. Now that I get the reference, I like it, though not everyone who sees it will know the reference. Gathering Pins sounds a little more quaint. Path of Pins sounds cool to me. I guess it depends what sort of feel you're going for.

Path of Needles sounds totally badass, and you should use that. I agree that it's got a creepy edge, but I don't think that's bad. Anybody who sees the name and thinks "oh, mayhaps this sewing blog is too dark for me" is probably not your target audience anyway.

I guess so... but I didn't really intend for it to be all that dark? I mean, it's a thing I'm making, so it will probably have some weird stuff in it. But I was hoping not to be off-putting from the get-go.

I mean, I know you aren't intending it to be "my creepy sewing blog," and I don't think Path of Needles says, "this is my creepy sewing blog" so much as "this is my sewing blog that might be a little weird, sometimes." It seemed to me that very few people would see the name "Path of Needles" and think that that name is so creepy that they can't bring themselves to actually look at the blog. Those people who did feel that way would probably not be in the target audience.

tl;dr: I don't necessarily think it's creepy or off-putting, just cool and a little edgy, and nuts to folks who don't like that.

My vote before I read the source of the names was also 'Path of Needles'. After reading the source, I think that it's very interesting to hear the origins, but I don't think that I can base my decision on that, since the common audience wouldn't get the reference (and only you can decide between the blog being sexual vs. flirtatious for people who do get the reference). Also, I don't see "path of needles" as a dark thing. What most intrigued me about the name is that every seam in every piece of clothing is the residual path of a needle. The needle leaves a path of thread in its wake that marks its journey through the fabric. The idea of seams being merely the footsteps that a needle left behind is fascinating to me.

Hm! While the sexual connotations of the Path of Needles are definitely one of my biggest reasons *not* to choose that title, I do really like your point about the seams. That might be enough to sway me. It is still my least favorite choice, but I recognize that it is apparently most people's favorite.
