“You are to represent Naboo in the Galactic Senate.”
The young woman blinks; that is the only indication of her surprise.
“I need someone I can trust,” the Queen continues, “to have the interests of Naboo at heart.”
Her gaze flickers, resting on each member of the Council before, finally, meeting the gaze of the Queen whose expression is unreadable; she thinks she sees something at the back of her eyes but she isn’t certain.
“Yes, your Majesty,” she smoothly replies, ignoring the lump in her throat. “I hope to do as well at the position as my predecessor.”
The Queen smiles, regally curving her lips, and inclines her head; both know to whom she refers. “So do I, Senator Naberrie. Senator Binks was well-regarded.”
Dismissed, the young woman walks away, aware that the tide of conversation has turned. As her steps lead her away from the palace, her shoulders sag under the weight of her aunt’s achievements.
