More commonly known as: Answering some questions in advance.
As is the nature of people, they ask questions. Below are questions that are asked very frequently. I intend to update this post, as often as required so if you would like to ask a question? Leave it as a comment on this entry. Please bear in mind the comments will get deleted when this entry is updated; this will occur once a week unless I've taken a hiatus due to real life.
There is no promise to answer every question.

You’re gonna delete my comments? That’s censorship! Where does the name, morethanacandle, come from? When are new stories posted?
When working with fiction, I don’t work to a particular deadline. Updates will happen when they happen.
Please don’t ask me to send you an email when updates happen; I won’t do it.

Do you take requests?
Sometimes I do. It depends on what the person asking would like and, also, writing is very subjective - you mightn’t like my particular take on a situation, pairing or canon perspective.

Do you do cross-overs?
No, I do not. I don’t have anything against cross-overs if they’re done well. I simply have no interest in writing them.

I’m looking for a particular piece of work; how can I find it?
The
tags and
memories are used quite extensively as a way to archive the fiction that are posted here and to make it easier to find. Here’s a quick run-down of the
tags:
- Admin: Anything listed as ‘admin: ...’ are posts that are posted to let people know what’s up with morethanacandle (updates), polls, rules etcetera.
- Character: these are character-specific and let people find stories that are about that particular character.
- Fiction: currently, there are only three fiction tags: Valentine’s Day, roleplay related and extra. These tags don’t ‘fit’ within the other categories.
- Film(s)/TV/stage production: a distinction of where the fandom comes from, whether it is a TV show, movie or play.
- Pairing: usually this is for romantic fiction although there is one that isn’t intended for romantic purposes.
- Series: a series of fiction that’s for a specific purpose.
- Trilogy: a series of three stories that’re part of a series.
The
memories are categorised by fandom and pairing or ‘general’ (it isn’t specific to a particular pairing). For example: Merlin: Arthur & Morgana. The General: Mixed category are stories that were one-shots and weren’t going to have others written in that fandom.
Both
tags and
memories are updated when required.

Why is the general rating of this journal (M)?
The general rating of this journal is (M) as a ‘safety net’ as not all my writing falls under this rating but quite a lot of it does. (M), as a rating, means recommended for mature audiences, usually 15+, and that the content is considered moderate.

What are ‘quick & dirty’ stories?
Quick ‘n’ dirty fics are pieces of fiction that have been written quickly and have little to no editing - hence the term ‘quick ‘n’ dirty.’ If a piece of fiction is labelled as ‘quick ‘n’ dirty’ in the author’s notes, it should be noted that the writer is aware that the fiction isn’t edited extensively and so small things, sometimes large, might have been missed.

Will you extend/expand/revise a ‘quick ‘n’ dirty’?
Part of the appeal of ‘quick ‘n’ dirty’ stories is that they’re written quickly and not edited further; quite often, they’re usually to give voice to an image or an idea in my mind, often capturing ‘moments’. They’re not revisited due to their nature - moments are captured within them and quite often, if a ‘quick ‘n’ dirty’ is played with, the balance achieved within it is lost. I also don’t feel a desire to revisit them once they’re written although they might spark an idea for another story that I might not realise I had.
I am also going to ask that you do not offer to share ideas on how to expand/extend/revise my ‘quick ‘n’ dirty’ stories. As mentioned above, I don’t feel a desire to revisit anything labelled ‘quick ‘n’ dirty’ by me. When they’re put on
morethanacandle, I’m content that they tell the appropriate/entire story. Your ideas are your own.
So, no; I will not expand/extend/revise a ‘quick ‘n’ dirty.’

I like your stories but could you try another/change your writing style?
Don’t consider asking this; I won’t do it. Over the years, I’ve experimented with various styles of writing, different methods and so on. No offence but I like my writing style as it is right now.

Do you have writing posted elsewhere?
Yes, I do; it's on
Elfwood. It contains examples of my earlier writing. If looking for fanfiction, there isn’t any at
Elfwood as their rules prohibit the posting of such material.
No, I will not give the URL to my personal Elfwood library except via request;
a contact email address can be found on the user information, to make the request.

How long have you been writing?
I honestly could not tell you.
Why not?
Answer: I’ve been telling stories in many mediums for as long as I can remember - I don’t know when writing became part of the mediums.
[

Will you look at my writing?
Yes; I will even give my opinion on what I do/don’t like about it. However, if you’re simply looking to just consistently pimp your own work but claim in the same breath that ‘No, that’s not what I’m doing!’, then the answer will always be no.
The best way to tell me about your work is to email me. An email address is available through my
user information.

Are you a published author?
No, I’m not. This should also answer enquiries as to book signings I attend - I’m just there to get my copy of someone else’s book signed.
[

Can I have your phone number?
Personal information of that nature is not given.

You’re gonna delete my comments? That’s censorship!
As mentioned above, I’ll be deleting the comments to this entry as questions are added. But, also, I’ll delete comments if they involve bashing/flaming or they're like the example shown below; no one wants to read about that form of activity. That’s all. I’m not a fan of people leaving derogatory comments simply ‘because they can’ under the guise of an anonymous comment.
An example of the latter form of comment: you are teh suxxx0r of dog balls. (Yes, this was a real comment I have received.)

Where does the name, morethanacandle, come from?
morethanacandle is an Star Wars reference from the novelisation of the final chapter of the prequel trilogy, by Matthew Stover. Originally, the quote was seen on
obiwan_padme, if I recall correctly, and at that time, it inspired me to create this journal. The quote:The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins - but in the heart of its strength lies weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
Love can ignite the stars.
Revenge of the Sith, Matthew Stover, p. 419.
