Arrow to bow and then she nocks it with practiced ease. Old skills flow into fingers since become used to pens and pencils. With fluid motions, the arrow is aimed while Lucy runs into the forest.
More than a sister, in the moment that the arrow fires, she is the Queen she once was. The calm that settles as a mantle is familiar; she remembers it from when she fired into the fray to protect her brothers when needed. Now, she protects Lucy while her sister flees into the forest.
Another arrow follows the first and the bow is pointed at the second horseman. Instinct had nocked another arrow; she doesn’t remember doing it. However, the arrow is halted, kept on the string when another horseman crashes through the underbrush. The bow is lowered, the arrow idle.
She realises in that moment that this will be last time she will feel so at home on Narnian soil.
