Title: Waking up isn’t hard to do.
Fandom: Psych
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Any time during season 1.
Summary: Gus was asleep and Shawn needed him awake.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

I realised lately that I’d been writing sad (and serious) stories lately, depending on your point of view, and when watching Psych (season 1) recently, I had an idea for a very short Psych story that would fulfil a prompt on the current table (sleeping).

This isn’t meant to be anything but silly and fun. I also probably haven’t captured the characters all that well since I’ve only just started watching the series again. Fingers crossed!

The fake rock never worked. Shawn shook his head, picked up the rock and took the key from the bottom. He let himself in and stuffed the rock in his right pocket; he winced when there was a slight bang from a neighbour’s door. He quickly glanced down the hall. No sign of Gus. Excellent. The rock was extracted from his pocket, put back where he’d found it and he carefully closed the door.

He placed the newspaper on the dining table and tiptoed down the hall and peered around Gus’s open bedroom door. He sat on the window seat next to the bed.

Damn; he needed the ‘paper and Gus could be asleep for hours yet.

He suppressed his exasperated sigh and remembered to walk on the balls of his feet. Coffee ... coffee ... Gus really needed to not to put it in a cupboard. He found a mug beside the sink, rinsed it and began making the coffee. Hot strong black coffee and the morning ‘paper; perfect!

He bounced on his feet lightly while waiting for everything to do what it had to do; it wasn’t fast enough! Didn’t it know it had to move faster? He shook his head at it and, finally, it was done. He poured the coffee into the waiting mug, careful not to spill because he didn’t want to have to clean it up later, and, after he’d grabbed the ‘paper, made his way back down the hallway. He double-checked Gus was still asleep, opened the ‘paper and sat, crossed his legs and drank his coffee.

“Ow!” He muttered softly. He rolled his eyes at the coffee for having not cooled down yet and glanced over at Gus. Still no movement.

He set the ‘paper to one side and studied his best friend. He waved the coffee under Gus’s nose; that super smeller of his twitched. He blew some of the steam toward the sleeping man. There was another twitch. Shawn sat quickly back, re-crossed his legs and opened the ‘paper. His expression was one of studious innocence when Gus opened his eyes and Shawn sipped the coffee. He turned a page.

“Shawn, how’d you get in here?”

“Dude, fake rock for an apartment? Never works.” Shawn shook his head. “Anyway, about the case ...!”
