I’ve been watching a lot of Monk and, while there’s no mystery attached, I wanted to see Adrian thinking on something and not disassociating in any way. Also, I kept thinking of Trudy and her desire to have kids.
I admit that Monk probably doesn’t seem like Monk; my thoughts are far, far too normal, it seems.

Mr. Monk’s attention drifted to the waterfall in the courtyard. His thoughts wandered, always in a straight line, and in the same direction: to Tommy.
“Adrian,” prompted Dr. Kroger. “Adrian ... what are you thinking?”
Mr. Monk turned his attention back to the present. “Tommy,” he admitted quietly.
“It must have been hard to give him back ...” Dr. Kroger watched Mr. Monk closely, over the line of his pen.
“It was ... the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” He shifted in his chair. Then he stood and waled toward the couch and straightened an already straight cushion before he sat.
“Adrian, if you don’t want to talk about Tommy, we don’t have to.”
“Okay.” Mr. Monk sat straighter. “We ...” His gaze fell upon the bin and he thought to when he’d heard, from Julie, about Tommy cleaning up. “I wanted him to get dirty.” He looked at Dr. Kroger. “Kids should get dirty.”
“Yes, they should.” Dr. Kroger sat up. “Is that what you asked the parents? For them to let Tommy get dirty?”
He nodded. It’d been the last thing he’d said for an hour after that - he had to tell Natalie that she was driving crooked - meeting. “He was ... too much like me. He’s a kid. He should get dirty.” He shouldn’t be afraid.
It was unsaid but Dr. Kroger heard it very loudly; he made notes. “Yes, he should,” he smiled gently. “He should get dirty.”
